Complementary Colors. Two colors on opposite sides of the color wheel. The complementary color of a primary color is the color you get by mixing the other two. These colors when placed next to each other appear brighter. According to traditional Color Theory derived from paint mixtures, the complementary color for Red is Green, for Yellow it is Purple, and for Blue it is Orange.
