Surrealism is an art movement that started in the 1920s. Influenced by the theories of the pioneer of psychoanalysis Sigmund Freud, it focuses on the subconscious, the fantastic, the interpretation of dreams, and the juxtaposition of unlikely elements. Key exponents were Salvador Dalí and Rene Magritte.
